For our first public reading in 2018, we’d like to welcome Portland State alumna Sophia Shalmiyev, author of the forthcoming book MOTHER WINTER (Simon & Schuster).

The evening will feature readings from current Portland State University MFA students.

About Sophia Shalmiyev: Portland-based writer and Laurels Award Fellowship recipient Sophia Shalmiyev’s forthcoming book, MOTHER WINTER, will be published by Simon & Schuster in February 2019. The book recounts the author’s childhood emigration to the United States from the Soviet Union. Shalmiyev has written for Vela, Ravishly, Visitant, Bellows Review, Portland Review, and many more.
