Walk-cycles are a short, basic animation, where-in through a series of frames, a character is seen walking in profile. In this workshop, we will discuss basic animation principles, before looking at a wide variety of animation examples, including examples from Prince Achmed, a 1926 German film, and the soviet series “Vinni Pukh” (an adaptation of Winnie-the-pooh by A. A. Milne). Afterwards, we will do some collaborative drawing exercises to help come up with our own characters. We will spend the majority of the time working with our characters, using references to draw frames in which they complete a walk-cycle.
At the end of the workshop we will work together and make these drawings into animated gifs using Photoshop and iPhone apps.
