Noted Bay Area writers Tomas Moniz (Rad Dad) and Dani Burlinson (McSweeney’s) join with local authors A.M. O’Malley and Joshua James Amberson for a dynamic night of readings. The tour is in support of Moniz’s new novella,Bellies and Buffalos (Black Hills Press) and Burlinson’s new essay collection, Dendrophilia and Other Social Taboos: True Stories.
Tomas Moniz is the founder, editor, and a writer for the award winning zine, book and now magazine: Rad Dad. He also is co-founder and co-host of the successful monthly reading series Lyrics and Dirges as well as the more rambunctious open mic, Saturday Night Special. He’s been making zines since the late nineties, and his most current zines Dirty and The Body is a Wild Wild Thing are available, but you have to write him a postcard: PO Box 3555, Berkeley CA 94703. Tomas teaches at Berkeley City College.
Dani Burlison has been a staff writer for a Bay Area alt-weekly, a columnist for McSweeney’s Internet Tendency and a book reviewer for The Los Angeles Review. She writes a music/lit column at The Rumpus and is a freelancer of epic proportions with other work appearing or forthcoming in places like The Chicago Tribune, Ploughshares, Hip Mama Magazine, Rad Dad, Spirituality & Health Magazine, Shareable and more. She is a Squaw Valley Writers Workshop and Lit Camp alumna and lives in Sonoma County with her two daughters.
Joshua James Amberson is the author of the long-running Basic Paper Airplane zine, as well The Prince Zine. His essays and music journalism have appeared in the Portland Mercury, Performer Magazine, Rascal Magazine, Quickest Flip Magazine, and American Songwriter, among others. He’s currently working on a young adult novel called The Importance of Forgetting.
A.M. O’Malley’s short stories and prose poems have been published in Poor Claudia: Phenome, UnShod Quills, Burnside Review and Portland Review. She is a teacher, performer and the program director at the IPRC.
