October 2013: Aron Nels Steinke’s Mr. Wolf No. 1



Aron Nels Steinke began drawing comics in 2006 with the help of a grant from the Xeric Foundation.  Since then, Steinke has published 5 issues of the autobiographical comics series, Big Plans, and has frequently participated in numerous anthologies including the Portland-based Papercutter anthology.

Steinke’s all-ages graphic novel, Neptune, first published in 2009 by Sparkplug Comic Books and Tugboat Press, was selected as a notable book in the 2011 edition of Best American Comics published by Houghton Mifflin, and published in France by publisher, Éditions Cà et Là,. Steinke has published two early-reader children’s books with Blue Apple Books, The Super Crazy Cat Dance, and it’s companion, The Super-Duper Dog Park. The latter was chosen as a Publisher’s Weekly honorable mention for the Best Comics of 2011. A 360-page collection of his mini-comics entitled, Big Plans – The Collected Mini-Comics and More is now available from Bridge City comics.

In addition to making comics and kid’s books Steinke teaches 1st and 2nd grade in North Portland.
