A pleated spine is a wonderful thing to add to your book-making repertoire and can be implemented in many different ways. In this class we will focus on one structure with multiple variables in technique and design choices. In creating a multi-section booklet utilizing an accordion spine, participants will learn basics that can be applied to other accordion-style structures great for all types of zines and comics: foolproof folding techniques, the importance of paper grain, different approaches to covers, pamphlet stitch variations, and how to use a sewing cradle, which participants will assemble in class (to take home) from pre-cut cardboard parts.
