Workshop Description:

Writing with the Invisible is a cross genre workshop that seeks to merge the mediums of prose poetry through stream of consciousness and tactile media such as collaging, painting and textile art. Participants will learn how to dream, envision, embrace non-linearity and tap into the deepest roots of their hearts while working with our shadow selves to write without shame or judgment. You will engage in moments of co-creation, giving poetry a physical form and playing with the structure and flow of an object, the relationship to oneself and the experience of the viewer while interacting with it.

The duration of the class will host generative writing and hands on making. This class is designed for people from all areas of life seeking connection. Its focus is not on language proficiency but on the desire to learn, co-create and engage in community building. We will partake in group discussions with the intention of inspiring each other through devoted creative practice.

Students can expect to come away from the workshop with a better grasp on subconscious ways of making that best aligns with how they wish to connect with the world, and the creation of 1-2 individual poems as well as a group poetic art piece by the end of the workshop period.

Instructor Bio: Mei (they/them) is a queer, non-binary, South Asian multidisciplinary artist and writer with a Bachelor’s in Philosophy from Gargi College, University of Delhi, India and a Master’s in Fine Arts from the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon. Their work revolves around themes of identity, queerness, mental health through the lens of love, deriving inspiration from elements in nature, spiritualism and surrealism.
