Workshop Description: The world is, well, a mess. Take your coat off and slip into something a little more surreal. Explore the melding of worlds, of oddities and uncanny. Surreal genre-defying works are fertile ground for disassembling built narratives, defying capitalism and colonialism, and finding our individual voices to create a chorus of oddities. Forget what’s real, imagine new realities, buck genre, buck gender, and let’s get weird.
This workshop will look at surrealist short stories, poetry, and ideologies by writers such as Lydia Davis, Richard Brautigan, Haruki Murakami, and Aimé Césaire and feature exercises based on those and other works.
You’ll leave the class with a draft of a micro/ flash story or prose poem and a passport to the great beyond.
