Workshop Description:

In this interactive workshop, we will review the basic components of applying for grants, including identifying opportunities, the types of grants out there, how to submit a competitive application, how the grant review process typically works, and what happens once you receive a grant. Participants will learn about the components of grant applications, and get tips on writing compelling project descriptions, creating a budget, fine tuning your artist statement and resume or bio to support your application, and putting together work samples. The workshop is designed to demystify the grant review process, help you overcome barriers to applying for grants, and learn collaboratively with other artists. Artists from all disciplines and backgrounds are welcome.

Instructor: Eleanor Sandys

Instructor Bio: Founder of LOTUS art & museum services, Eleanor Sandys has over 15 years of experience in museum and arts administration. Prior to going independent, Eleanor managed Oregon’s public art program and multiple grant programs for individual artists at the Oregon Arts Commission. With the Arts Commission and in partnership with several private foundations, Eleanor spearheaded the development of a relief grant program that distributed more than $2 million to hundreds of Oregon artists during the pandemic. Eleanor has served on grant review panels for the Oregon Cultural Trust, Oregon Heritage and the Regional Arts & Culture Council. She loves working with artists to catalyze their vision, whether managing a public art project, coordinating an exhibition, or supporting artists in applying for opportunities.
