Come welcome Thalia Field for her only Pacific Northwest reading from Experimental Animals this winter/spring. Field’s work blends, crosses and defies genres. And so do her readings. This hybrid reading-performance will include projected images and multiple voices. This “reality fiction,” Experimental Animals, uses the collage of archival materials to explore the origins of and crossfertilization between experimental literature and experimental medicine, highlighting the erased voices of women and the silenced voices of animals in 19th century France and portraying the improbable marriage between the renowned vivisectionist Claude Bernard and his animal activist wife Fanny.

Opening the evening will be Leni Zumas whose latest book Red Clocks hits the streets in January 2018 and whose writing Joy Williams calls “fearless and swift, sassy and sensational.” Karen Russell adds: “Her language is real sorcery—it dismantles the world you think you know and takes you to strange, fecund territories of the imagination.”
