Por Nuestras Victorias
Please join Colectivo Jarx and Buscando America for an evening of celebrating the life of Victor Jara with presentations, music and light refreshments.
Victor Jara was a musician and political activist in Chile at the time of the military coup in 1973. He was killed by the Pinochet dictatorship, but his values and his message are both very much alive today. Nuestras Victorias (our victories) is an event meant to commemorate Victor’s death in September 1973 and to celebrate his legacy of fighting the capitalist system, fascism and all other forms of injustice. Our guest speaker from Chile, Camilo Diaz, has been a militant of the radical left since 2006, participating in several student and social organizations including the development of the Chilean communist liberatory project. He is also a part of the political muralist group UMLEM that is inspired by the Ramona Parra Brigade, which was the propaganda arm of the Communist Party starting in 1968.
Language: event primarily in Spanish, with translator available for small-group simultaneous translation.
