Instructor: Stephanie Victoire

This 4-week writing lab series explores the further imagination, narrative and creation that awaits us within the consciousness of visual art. Students will experience how art communicates with its viewers and anticipates its reincarnation into multiple streams of language and ideas. Throughout the course of the workshops, students will learn how to transcend the messages, concepts and threads of thought they pull from the pieces in the gallery that speak to them, and respond creatively in any written form they wish. Each week there will be in-class discussion that provides them with the tools to see, feel and hear a poem, a story, or a wider message in any visual around them at any time. Through writing exercises, students will have the opportunity to harness their relationship with their inspirations and find confidence in their artistic perception and language sensibility. There will be dedicated time to sharing the work they’ve produced each week which will enable them to explore and shape their writing voice and creative philosophy, and give them a body of ideas and works that have malleable artistic potential.

All levels are welcome (beginners encouraged)

About the Instructor:

Stephanie Victoire is an author and mentor, and was born and raised in the UK by her Mauritian-Creole family. In 2010 she graduated with a BA in Creative Writing from London Metropolitan University. She has travelled the world across five continents, has trained in several alternative therapy modalities, and supports her mentees with healing and creative guidance and practices. In 2015 she completed a residency for emerging London BIPOC writers, and published her short story collection, The Other World, It Whispers, with Salt Publishing UK in 2016. Her short works have been broadcasted and published with BBC Radio, many anthologies, and various online platforms. In 2020, Stephanie left London to live permanently in Portland, Oregon. She is currently working on a novel, is piecing together material for a memoir and is writing other short works of fiction.
