In this in-person workshop, we will break down what makes a solid artist statement. Together, we will look at examples from a variety of artists and discuss what makes them tick: voice, values, and craft. Students can also expect to participate in generative free writes and draft, share, and informally critique work. Each student will aim to craft a flexible and durable statement that can be used on a gallery wall or as a building block in a successful grant, residency, or MFA application. This course is open to all makers, writers, and artists of any experience level. Sliding scale and scholarships available.

Class meetings: 4

Instructor: Cole Cohen

Sundays, 1-3pm

June 4th – June 25th

$75 – $175 Sliding Scale

*2 no-cost spots available; BIPOC & 2S prioritized

Sensory Note: for anyone experiencing audio or visual sensitivity, please note that the IPRC is situated under a skatepark, which creates occasional disruptive background noise, and the lighting in the studio and classroom space is primarily fluorescent.
