Located in Portland, Oregon, the Independent Publishing Resource Center (IPRC) is a unique nonprofit with a mission of facilitating creative expression, identity and community by providing public access to workspace, resources, technology and education for self-publishing. In 2012, the IPRC made a landmark move from a small, downtown location into a dynamic new 4,000 sq. ft. space with two classrooms, a state-of-the-art computer lab, screenprinting and letterpress studios, bindery, member lounge, and one of the world’s largest small press libraries. The center also offers innovative programming and outreach, including the yearlong Certificate Program in Creative Writing and Independent Publishing. By providing such unique education and resources, the IPRC continues to forge a new model for writing and publishing, one that combines an open-access publishing house with a dynamic community space and an experimental “school.”

The IPRC’s former Development and Community Resource Coordinator, Pollyanne Bire, was promoted to Managing Director in early 2014, and to the Executive Director position in late June 2014. We now seek to hire a highly qualified individual to fill a part-time (.75 FTE) Development and Community Resource Coordinator (DCRC) position. This employee will enhance our ability to fulfill the IPRC’s mission in the community and improve the services we provide to the public by effectively coordinating all our community resources, volunteers, tools and equipment. The DCRC will also be highly active in development and fundraising activities. The IPRC has expanded its revenue, programming, and physical space in the past two years and the new DCRC will have the potential to build off this momentum. A self-starter with innovative ideas about organizational efficiency, fundraising and sponsorship will be able to grow this position along with the IPRC.

The DCRC’s duties will include:

• Direct and indirect interface with the 550+ members/users/students who visit the IPRC each month (as well as the 100+ monthly individuals who make inquiries via phone and email), for example by providing information and some minor assistance with individual publishing/art projects.
• Assisting the Executive Director with development and fundraising activities, including donor cultivation, networking, grant writing, direct mail marketing, online fundraising, incentive fulfillment, and event planning.
• Oversight and management of IPRC individual donor and membership databases.
• Oversight of IPRC membership activities; cultivation of new individual and group memberships.
• Coordination, scheduling, hiring and training of IPRC Open Hours volunteers and interns.
• Some general administrative and office-management tasks, including weekly bank deposits and communication with the IPRC’s off-site accounting firm.
