Beginning InDesign

Put down the glue sticks and scissors and learn to use Adobe InDesign, a page layout and print design software on the computer that allows you to create and deliver printed documents or multi-page books that are both attractive and effective.

Book Arts: Dos-A-Dos

Learn simple structures to make beautiful and innovative books. Build up your binding arsenal with 2-signature books (called dos-a-dos).

Intro to Letterpress

Learn to set movable lead type and print on a table-top handpress in the IPRC print shop. You’ll learn the vocabulary of printing and typesetting while getting a feel for this beautiful and historical process. Leave class with a printed card and the satisfaction that comes with using 100 year old equipment! Come to class with small quotes or ideas for words to print. Successful completion of this class allows IPRC members access to open studio print hours so you can keep on printing!

Advanced InDesign

Increase your InDesign efficiency and learn professional page layout tricks.Create long documents quickly using multiple Master Pages and multi-file books. Libraries, Bezier drawing tools, tables, advanced typography techniques, an in-depth use of color and an introduction to pre-press features and trapping are also covered

Effective Self Promotion

Whether you are an artist, illustrator, designer or photographer, your goal is to be able to keep your portfolios from being forgotten once you send them out into the world. This workshop will esplore various techniques you can apply to both your digital and mailable self marketing options.

How to Build and Promote a Website

Open to anyone interested in learning how to build and promote an attractive portfolio website using free services that already exist on the web. The class will explore basic web concepts such as html, CSS and blogging, as well as provide tips on how to get people interested in visiting your new web home.

Writing and Publishing a Short Story

After drawing inspiration from short story master Raymond Carver, publishing industry veteran Justin Hocking will lead a discussion about what really makes a story work in this two-session workshop. He’ll give tips on getting published, but more importantly he’ll help you publish your own writing in a zine/chapbook. We will also create our own personalized covers using gocco!

Variations on the Pamphlet Stitch and One-sheet Books

Comics for Parents and Kids

In this workshop, parents and kids make comics together while learning about comics techniques (character design, expression, exaggeration, etc.). Short exercises will keep you entertained, and before you know it you’ll have a fun comic for everyone to read.
